Vinegar Weed

This annual herb gets its common name from the volatile oils in its foliage that emit a strong vinegar odor and have phytotoxic properties, which help vinegar weed compete against other plant species. This 3 ft. tall plant bears striking purple-blue flowers on short green stems in fall.

Where other plants die, this one thrives in dry, nutrient-poor, sun-baked clay soils. This is a great choice for bee gardens and exposed areas of the garden with little water available.
