Canyon gooseberry

This summer deciduous shrub grows to 6-12′ tall.  It has dramatic arching branches with thorns that help to deter predators.  Hummingbirds and bees like the flowers. Birds and other wildlife loves the fruit.

This is a great plant to use under oaks in the garden.  Make sure to avoid direct water during the summer, or water indirectly if needed.

Very showy flower show in the late winter and spring with small maroon-purple-white flowers,  followed by edible spiny red berries.
