Western Chokecherry

This large deciduous shrub can grow up to 15 ft tall and spread about 10 ft. It can spread via suckers.

In the spring and summer it will be fully leafed out and showing clusters of white flowers. The flowers are followed by shiny red berries, favored by birds. Jelly or jam and perhaps wine can be made if the birds leave you any of the fruit. The darker the fruit the sweeter the flavor. Best to cook first because the berries can be mildly toxic when eaten raw.

This plant can make a nice screen.
