Fremon’t Bushmallow

Fremont’s Bushmallow is an endemic shrub of California, where it is found in chaparral and woodlands in several mountain ranges and their foothills.

It is a stiff, erect shrub that grows up to 7 feet tall at maturity. It requires no summer water once established. The leaves appear felt-like due to the dense, white, hairy fibers that coat them. Clusters of pale purple flowers appear in May and will last through July.

This bushmallow will make a wonderful addition to butterfly gardens or as a border/hedge plant with other low water use plants.
