Harlequin Lotus
Harlequin Lotus (also known by the common names Seaside Bird’s-foot Trefoil and Coast Lotus) is a rare perennial herb native to the west coast, where it grows primarily in moist spots along the coastal mountains and down to ocean side bluffs.
Harlequin Lotus grows upright or spreading, from 4″ to 1.5′ tall. This species has showy pea-like flowers with a bright yellow upper petal and bright pink to white lower petals.
In the garden, this species likes a lot of sun and well-draining soil. It pairs beautifully with a mix of annuals and herbaceous perennials such as Gilia, poppies, columbines, milkweed, and small succulents (Dudleya sp.)
