‘Frosty Blue’ Ceanothus

This evergreen variety is a rounded shrub 6-9 feet tall with a spread up to 10 feet. It can be shaped into a small tree or used as a hedge. In spring, it produces masses of sky blue flowers, in 3 inch clusters of deep-blue frosted with white.

It is relatively tolerant of heavy soils and routine watering, but prefers good drainage. Moderate deer tolerance – protect for at least the first year and expect some browsing thereafter.

Cultivars such as this are horticultural selections and hybrids (in our case they are grown from seed and subject to genetic variation that may result in aesthetic deviation from the true ‘Frosty Blue’ cultivar), so they are not part of the native ecology but work beautifully in the garden.
