February 2023 Plant Availability
Greetings,

Happy February! We hope you’ve made it through this stormy start to the new year and are enjoying the California sunshine a little extra after the January atmospheric river like we are! Now that the flood waters have receded it’s nice to have some time to do a little damage control and get our gardens back on track for a fruitful year ahead. We’ve included a couple of helpful resources at the bottom of this newsletter for recovering from flooding/standing water in your garden in case you want some tips.

Here at the nursery a couple of our retail tables blew over in the new year’s storm, so over the last few weeks we’ve gotten a head start on some infrastructure upgrades (including our recent website makeover, just launched yesterday!!) and a bit of spring cleaning. We’re also gearing up for our big spring annuals roll-out in March, so although we’ve got a while yet to go before spring is in full swing, we’re excited to offer an “Early Bird Gets the Worm Spring Cleaning Sale” for 15 – 75% off a wide variety of our plants for the entire month of February! These sale plants will only be available while supplies last, so be sure to catch the early end of the sale to access the best selection! Not able to stop by and shop in person? Don’t fret! You are always welcome to order plants for curbside pickup instead! Just send us an email at sales@thewatershednursery.com or give us a call at (510) 234-2222 to place an order (please note that plants are only reserved once payment is received and will be held for up to one week).

  • This tree may reach the age of 250 years and is fast growing the first third of those years, then grows slowly.
  • Oregon ash is commonly found in riparian habitats, so its preferred habitat is poorly drained, moist bottom land with deep soil rich in humus.
  • In open moist sites this tree can have short trunks and wide, round-topped crowns with large limbs. On dry sites or at high elevations Oregon ash is often a small, crooked tree.
  • Its seeds are eaten by birds and squirrels, and it is a larval host plant for the Two-Tailed Swallowtail and the Western Tiger Swallowtail butterflies!

  • The flowers are light to medium blue in 6″ flower spikes
  • Cultivars such as this are horticultural selections and hybrids, not part of the native ecology, but they work beautifully in the garden.
