Ceanothus ‘Concha’

Ceanothus ‘Concha’, one of the oldest and best hybrid ceanothus. This shrub grows to about 4′ h x 4′ w.

Concha will grow into a mounding shrub, or can be shaped into a pretty small tree. This vigorous grower tolerates many soil types and will be long lived in most gardens if you avoid summer water.

This cultivar is has dense foliage and the 1″ flower clusters are reddish in bud and dark blue when open, March-April.

Historical Uses

Charles Samms discovered this old-timer in 1949 in his nursery in San Dimas, California. ‘Concha’ is a hybrid of Ceanothus impressus and Ceanothus papillosus var. roweanus.
