Whitestem Hedgenettle
Whitestem hedgenettle is an herbaceous perennial that is endemic to California. It grows up to 4 feet tall with fuzzy leaves that have a fragrant minty smell and provide the backdrop for an elaborate display of small white flowers with purple veins during the summer.
Like other hedgenettles, this species is in the mint family and spreads via rhizomes (and can become invasive in consistently moist garden conditions) and goes dormant in the winter. It may go partially summer dormant in dry garden conditions.
In the garden, it is easy to grow in full to partial sun and is a great choice for planting under/around bird baths!
