Johnny-jump-up

Viola pedunculata, also known by the common names Johnny-jump-up, Yellow Pansy, and California Golden Violet, is an attractive wildflower commonly found in coastal regions of California.

Johnny-jump-up is an evergreen perennial that makes an excellent ground cover, as it grows from a spongy rhizome and is often low-growing (although it can reach up to 1.5 ft. tall with the right conditions). Its gorgeous, golden yellow flowers put on a glorious display in the spring. The bright flowers are a favorite among a variety of Fritillary butterfly species.

This species likes rich clay soil and moderate – high seasonal moisture, but does not like summer water!
