Mock Orange
Mock Orange is a winter deciduous shrub that grows ~5 – 12 ft. tall and 6 ft. wide. At the peak of its flowering season, this plant is covered in a mass of white blossoms with a heavy, sweet scent similar to orange blossoms with a hint of pineapple.
In the garden, Mock Orange likes well drained soils and very low moisture.
This species is an excellent choice for drought tolerant hedges and butterfly gardens.
It pairs well with Manzanita species, Spicebush (Calycanthus occidentalis), Ceanothus species, Western Redbud (Cercis occidentalis), Coffeeberry (Frangula californica), Oak species, and Gooseberry (Ribes species).
